Course Map:

Long Course:

Long Course starts 7:00 am the park off Framara Drive, Kelso (turn of Riverway Drive into Yut Fay Ave, then right ont Framara Dve and follow the signs).

Finishes at the boat ramp off 5th Avenue, South Townsville.

Course Description:

The long course starts in the Upper Ross River and will really test your paddling prowess if you are going for gold! For the rest of you it will be a very pleasant and scenic trip downriver to the most upstream weir (Black Weir). A short portage will get you to weir 2 and a short paddle will see you at Gleeson’s Weir and another portage point. Now you are in Aplins Weir and headed towards the salt. Portage around the final weir and you move from freshwater crocs to salties so don’t slow down now! Don’t linger in the freshwater too long either or you might miss the outgoing tide that will assist you to the finish line near the River mouth. All up a great variety of scenery and some sweet paddling.

Intermediate Course:

You will cover a shorter section of the long course thereby sampling some of the challenges your long course colleagues have to overcome.

Intermediate Course starts TBA am from Riverway park, Thuringowa.

Finishes at the boat ramp off 5th Avenue, South Townsville.

Course Description:

The intermediate course starts in the Upper Ross River at the picturesque Riverway parklands and provides a short, sharp blast to the first portage point at Black Weir. From there you will face the same obstacles as the long course paddlers as you make your way past two more portages before you hit the outgoing tide to transport you to the finish line at the 5th Avenue boat ramp, South Townsville.  For most of you this will be a very pleasant and scenic trip downriver, however don’t linger in the freshwater too long or you might miss the outgoing tide that will assist you through the shallow points before you reach the end. All up a great variety of scenery and some sweet paddling.

Short Course:

Short Course starts TBA am from Aplin’s Weir, Annandale.

Finishes at the boat ramp off 5th Avenue, South Townsville.

Course Description:

No portages or still water paddling in this one, just an express ride with the tide from start to finish. The short course starts at the top of the salt at Aplin’s Weir. From there it is a simple case of riding the outgoing tide around the twists and bends, and shallow areas past Annandale wetlands, and down past Rosslea Golf Course, and beyond to the finish at the 5th Avenue boat ramp, South Townsville.
