Race 6 – Magnetic Loop 2021

The Magnetic Loop Stage Race is back to get your adrenalin flowing. Such a great race with awesome scenery it is destined to become not just a favourite but a classic event.

The 5 stage race will run with 2 groups of paddlers, those that are faster and those that are more social. The idea of this is to allow fast transitions after each stage and to implement the best water safety methods possible to all competitors.

 

LONG COURSE – 37.9km (or up to 2km less if you take a narrow line against island)


Briefing time – 8:30am
Start Location – Nelly Bay Marina
Start Time – 8:45am
Finish location – Nelly Bay Marina (paddling past Peppers Deck)

Presentations -3:45pm Scallywags Cafe (just over the road from HQ)

Short Course – approx 10km ( likely Picnic Bay to West Pt or West pt to HSB based on conditions)
Short Course Briefing time – 8:30am (with long course briefing)
Short Course Start time – Approx 9:05am or when the long course reach horseshoe bay/west pt leg if wind permits

Start location: Horseshoe Bay
Finish location: West Point

Race Stages (direction will be determined at a later date and is dependent on wind/tide conditions)

Stage – 4.46 km NELLY BAY to PICNIC BAY

Stage – 9.26 km PICNIC BAY to WEST POINT

Stage -10.9 km WEST POINT to HORSESHOE BAY

Stage – 9.78 km HORSESHOE BAY to ALMA BAY

LOGISTICS

Transport for teams is provided to swap over locations. This transport must be booked prior to the race to ensure adequate transport is available.

Transport is provided for short course competitors and their craft to the start line from Nelly Bay and from the finish back to Nelly Bay. This transport must be booked prior to the race.

Want a few creature comforts at each stage – We will transport 1 bag per competitor to each stage finish so you can have all the comforts you need while you’re there. Make sure your bag is clearly labelled with your name so we can make sure it makes it in the correct location when you want it!

We also provide massage, food, drink, groovy music at each staging area (within COVID safe guidelines). It might be a ‘race’ but really everyone just wants to have a great day!!!!

GETTING YOUR CRAFT TO MAGNETIC ISLAND

Magnetic Island Ferries is the best way to get your craft to Magnetic Island, either on a vehicle or as a walk on. The start/finish is only about 200m from where the barge will dock at Magnetic Island.

NQOPS is able to offer very limited transport on their event trailer. This must be booked and will cost $20 per craft to be paid with booking. Email admin@nqoceanpaddle series to book. Kayaks will need to be loaded during the week prior and picked up after kayak trailer returns to Townsville.

You can also use the facebook event to look for others who may have a spot available on their vehicle to transport a kayak.

To show our support and make your travel to the island (and back) as smooth as possible, please be familiar with the below information.
We are experiencing increased car travel to Magnetic Island, so we strongly suggest booking well in advance to secure your spot.
All vehicle bookings will receive the best rate online.  Please ensure you book as a 6MCAR (6 metre car) to allow the extra length for your kayak on roof racks.
Any kayaks longer than 6.5m incurs extra cost. E.g. 7m would be additional $96 return.
Those wanting to walk on with their kayak, this booking must be made over the phone on 07 4796 9300 to attain discount. Be sure to mention ‘Adventurethon’ at time of booking, along with the exact length of your kayak.
– All walk on passengers, carrying a kayak receive 25% discount, making it $46.50 return.
There is ample street parking near our terminal, and our secure car park is first in best dressed, at a rate of $5 per day.
